Who we are

Who we are

Mukti Green, a Non-Profit Business Initiative of MUKTI NGO (https://muktiweb.org/) aims to bring a change in society by establishing itself a one-stop trusted platform for varieties of plants. Having plants in our homes or in our offices doesn’t just look good, it also boosts our mood, makes us more productive, and cleans the air around us by absorbing toxins. So, we are here to shape the future of gardening!

The story behind starting the business is -

In the village of Purba Sridharpur, located in a remote region of Sundarban, villagers had been struggling to make ends meet. The main sources of income in the village are farming and working as daily labour. Most of the families faced financial difficulties as their earning members struggled to make ends meet with their meagre incomes.

In the village most of the women were housewives with no prior work experience and very limited education. They were finding it difficult to contribute to their families’ income and provide for their children’s education. Despite their limited resources, these women were determined to support their families, so they went to Mukti NGO, a local organization dedicated to empowering women through sustainable livelihoods.

Mukti NGO had been working in the area for last 15 years, providing training and support to empower women to become self-sufficient. The women formed a self-help group and decided to start their own horticulture nursery in their homes. They received training on seed propagation, plant care, and were provided with initial funding to purchase seeds, equipment, and materials support from Mukti.

The women were quick learners and were soon able to set up their own horticulture nursery at their homes. They started growing a variety of plants, including flowers, vegetables, fruit trees and developed their own techniques for organic farming.

Now they start earning but that is still not enough to full fill their daily requirements because they are struggling to sell their plants. So, Mukti steps up again to help them to sell their product by creating a community business named MUKTI GREEN. We hope to bring a sustainable change in our society, as well as establish a socially responsible business model.

It has been quite a journey for us to educate and convert village women to a trained gardener to grow plants. For the past 2 years we have been working on the same and today there are hundreds of gardeners are registered with ‘Mukti’ for training. Price, Availability, Quality and Gardener Welfare is 4 main building blocks of our business.

By focusing on these parameters, we hope to bring a sustainable change in our society, as well as establish a socially responsible business model. In our endeavour, we sincerely invite all of you to join us for your and society’s benefit.
